Handfuls of Hope began a sports ministry in the summer of 2018 in its headquarter community of Catalina and has since expanded the ministry to multiple villages in the Dominican Republic. The ministry includes many activities for young children, such as baseball, volleyball, soccer, and other various games and competitions. The purpose of the ministry is to use sports as a platform for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with young children. In particular, we place Christian coaches in children’s lives who not only teach the children about sports but more importantly share God’s love and provide guidance, support, and encouragement. Going forward, our goal is to expand the sports ministry to reach children in additional communities.
